Betadine's No Friend of Mine

I think it’s now safe to assume that I made it. (Whew, that was close!) I have to admit that the tension was quite high around the homestead. Facing surgery — minor or not — is no small potatoes. Especially when you have child-wrangling, client-wrangling and freak-out-wrangling. (Me in my normal state ☺)

Hubby was taking it hard. Taking it out on me. Not so good. But understandable in retrospect. It’s tough being the surgery-ee, but probably tougher being the waiter. Talk about lack of control.

I barely slept and gave up around 5. I was determined to PUT ON THE BRAVE FACE. Make the morning normal. As if.

Surprisingly, it went off without a hitch. Girlies in expert hands (our dear friend and dad of triplets, no less!) And we were off. Hubby fasting in solidarity. As we walked up to the front door I said, “This is our first big outing without the girls.” Ha.

I didn’t realize until we got there that I would, 1) be intubated (Grey’s anyone?), and, 2) that they give you a margarita before surgery. Okay, that second part isn’t true. But whatever it was that they mixed up in the I.V. pre-anesthesia worked on me just like tequila. Complete memory loss. I waved bye to hubby, was sliding onto the O.R. table and then…I had goo in my eyes in recovery. Bada-bing, bada-boom. I asked for husbino. Tried to focus my eyes. Ate ice chips. Asked for him again. He came. We talked to the nurses about Kaua’i. (Heaven on Earth.) Something else about sushi and ordering sea urchins that look like baby poop on the plate. With a side of wasabi. Then we were off to a room.

We camped for the day. Standard trying to sleep but they check vitals every hour — so no dice. Hubby left to do Miss 6 pick up and deposit at neighbors’ (another BIG thank you!). Then came back with Beanie. Who WAS allowed after all. The big bladder day finally came to a close at around 7:30. Home sweet home.

Another thing I didn’t know — they blow you up like a balloon with CO2 for the surgery. It takes a while to vacate. It hurts worse than the incision. Yikes.

Today’s been good. Moving slow. Pretty sore. But not all bad. The shower was a highlight. (Bye-bye Betadine.) Dinner was delivered by yet another friend. We have lunch and dinner for tomorrow and more on the way up through Wednesday. Gotta love having an organizer/true blue friend who takes charge ☺.

More sappiness: Between the meals, childcare, errand-running, etc. I am completely overwhelmed. You guys are the best. And the last minute scrambling yesterday for Beanie care was amazing. Me, speechless. Imagine that.

In an ironic twist, my god father in SC — after sending me his, “don’t worry, it’ll be fine” wishes — ended up in emergency g-bladder surgery himself one day before me. How weird is that?

How bizarre!!!
Glad you're okay, and it sounds like you have lots of help, but you know you can call me too if you need anything.

I had that CO2 blow up experience too. It's the worst part by far.
I'm glad it all went well. Take care and take time to heal up!
